Poor diet, drinking too much coffee or tea, smoking cigarettes, taking antibiotics frequently, and various genetic factors are some of the reasons that can cause yellow teeth. Although it may make a person look unattractive, you should know that yellow teeth can easily be solved with the implementation of just a couple healthy habits. From brushing and flossing to using baking soda, there are many natural ingredients and smart dental hygiene routines that can bring back that pearly white smile in no time.
1. Brush Regularly
Brushing teeth regularly should be a daily habit even if you already have white teeth. However, if any problems appear, the best way to whiten teeth would be to brush instantly after eating food or drinking a beverage that is likely to stain teeth. Furthermore, avoid smoking cigarettes because they’re one of the biggest reasons teeth become stained. What’s more, if you tend to drink a lot of coffee or tea, try to cut down on intake and brush regularly after having those drinks. Turning to a healthier diet can be of great help on your way to a pearly white smile.
2. Use Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide works wonders for oral health. Not only can it bring back a white smile, but it’s a perfect antibacterial agent that helps keep the mouth germ-free. Use half hydrogen peroxide and half water, swish it around in your mouth for about a minute, and rinse afterward. Not only will you have white teeth, but fresh breath as well. However, you can also mix it with a small amount of baking soda to form a paste that will remove plaque from teeth more efficiently.
3. Coconut Oil
After you brush, apply coconut oil to teeth for the look of whiteness to reappear. Take a spoonful of oil in your mouth and swish it between the teeth for 5 to 20 minutes. You could also add a bit of it to your toothbrush when brushing. Another solution is to take a clean washcloth, apply coconut oil to a corner of the cloth, and rub it on your teeth.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Thanks to the acetic acid, magnesium, potassium, probiotics, and enzymes, apple cider vinegar will work wonders for your teeth. It helps break down plaque and keeps your mouth germ-free as well. Try to rinse your mouth with it for at least a month or more, and you’ll soon see the results. However, try not to brush too hard or you’ll remove the enamel from your teeth.
5. Fruit Peels
Applying the inner side of an orange, lemon or banana peel to your teeth will instantly provide you with whiter teeth. Citrus fruits like lemon and orange contain beneficial acids, which improve teeth whiteness. Just take the peel and go over the teeth with it a couple of times. Rinse your mouth afterward and you will immediately see the results. You’ll notice teeth become a tad less yellow than they were before the treatment.
6. Professional Help
Sometimes natural whitening doesn’t work the way you have imagined. Therefore, turning to an orthodontist sometimes is the only solution. Getting a professional whitening treatment with your local orthodontist will provide a perfect Hollywood smile, and keep your teeth and gums healthy. What’s more, make sure you visit the orthodontist regularly to check for any cavities.
Healthy teeth are a sign of a healthy body, so it’s imperative we take care of them. Staying away from foods and drinks that stain teeth is the number one prevention of yellow teeth. However, if you like to indulge in hot, dark beverages and sweet foods, consider the use of natural ways to remove plaque. Whether you opt for brushing after every meal, using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar or citrus fruits, you’ll get that pearly white smile back in a blink of an eye. ♥
